Gehlweiler and Dream Loop Heimat

The Simon family’s forge was already a filming location in Gehlweiler in the HEIMAT trilogy.
In 2012, however, for the film “Die andere Heimat” (The Other Homeland), entire streets of the village in the Kirchberg municipality were transported back to the 19th century with elaborate sets.

Even today, you can still go in search of traces; large picture boards on the houses impressively show the transformation of the place at that time.

The small Dämgen family film house can be found looking over the old stone bridge. The interiors of this small “HEIMAT-Museum”, which are still in their original state during filming, provide insights into the living conditions of the Hunsrück villagers in the 19th century. It can be viewed by arrangement with the owner.

And hikers are drawn to the HEIMAT dream loop (Traumschleife), which in 2020 took second place among “Germany's most beautiful hiking trails” (tours category) voted for by readers of the hiking magazine Wandermagazin.
