Hiking around the suspension bridge

The bridge connects to legs 19 and 20 of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, a 410 kilometer long premium hiking trail between the towns of Perl, Trier (both by the Moselle river) and Boppard (by the Rhine river).

In addition, it can also be reached via other smaller circular routes or is located close to the four Traumschleifen (dream loops):

Traumschleife Dünnbachpfad
Traumschleife Masdascher Burgherrenweg
Traumschleife Layensteig Strimmiger Berg
Traumschleife Altlayer Schweiz

The “Geierlayschleife” circular trail around the bridge can also be walked. Restrictions may be put in place due to weather conditions. Sturdy shoes and a steady foot are required.

Cycling around the suspension bridge

The Geierlay suspension rope bridge is the highlight of the Geierlay cycle route in the Hunsrück.
The starting point of the cycle tour is the castle town of Kastellaun with its towering castle ruins. The 35-kilometre circular cycle route leads along field and forest paths, asphalt and gravel from Kastellaun via the villages of Völkenroth, Leideneck, Mastershausen, Sosberg, Mörsdorf, Mörz, Buch and Bell. The Gallows Tower near Mastershausen is also worth a stop along the way.
The Geierlay circular cycle route is particularly recommended for e-bike riders and experienced cyclists.
But please note: you can only push your bike on the suspension bridge!
